How our experts perform Cataract Surgery

The surgery is recommended when cataracts interfere with your vision or the treatment of other underlying eye conditions.

Phacoemulsification

This type of cataract surgery uses ultrasonic waves to break the lens into tiny pieces, which are then suctioned out of the eye with a vacuum. The incision is very small and does not require suturing. After the lens is removed, an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted to restore clear vision.

Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE)

Extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) is a type of eye surgery where the cloudy lens is taken out, leaving behind intact capsular bag. This allows for an intraocular lens (IOL) to be put in its place. This procedure requires a large corneal incision and multiple sutures.

Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS)

This is a variant of ECCE but does not require mutliple sutures. It involves creation of a self – sealing sclerocorneal tunnel for the cloudy lens extraction and the IOL is placed in the lens capsular bag.

Microincision Cataract Surgery (MICS)

Microincision cataract surgery (MICS) is a modern way to remove cataracts through very small incisions, less than 1.8 mm in size. MICS aims to improve vision, reduce discomfort, and speed up recovery compared to traditional cataract surgery methods.

Monofocal IOL

It is designed to provide clear vision at one fixed distance mostly far sight alone. The patient needs to use glasses for tasks that involve near vision like reading glasses.

Toric IOL

Toric IOL is a special kind of lens used in cataract surgery to fix vision problems caused by astigmatism, in addition to providing clear distant vision. It has different power in different meridians of the lens to compensate for the irregular shape of the cornea that causes astigmatism.

Multifocal IOL

This lens provides clear vision at multiple distances, such as near, intermediate, and far, by having different zones or rings with varying focal lengths. This type of lenses reduce the need for glasses after surgery.

Complications and risks associated with cataract surgery

Although cataract surgery is safe , it has its own side effects and complications . Some of them include infection, inflammation, rise in eye pressure. Sometimes, during the surgery, the posterior lens capsule tears and some part of lens enters posterior part of the eye. So, there might be a need for another surgery or prolonged surgery duration.
